Close-up of Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed: Limited edition of 250 units for rich people
About 7 months after its debut as a Concept car at the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the exclusive Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed model in Abu Dhabi. This is the first model in the new Mythos family and will be limited to just 250 units worldwide.
The car is based on the current Mercedes SL but has been completely overhauled and will be much more expensive, although no official pricing details have been confirmed at this stage.
As a speed car, the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed does not have a traditional windshield and A-pillar. Instead, it has a Formula 1-inspired halo made from high-strength steel, which helps keep the car's occupants safe. The design is very similar to the Mercedes-AMG GT Speedster built by German company Bussink a few years ago.
Interestingly, Mercedes-AMG doesn't appear to have made any changes to the car's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. As a result, it continues to produce 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, just like the regular SL 63, which anyone can go to a Mercedes dealer to buy.
Still, this powertrain gives the car without a windshield and roof more than enough power, allowing it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 196 mph. (315 km/h).
Comes with the powerful V8 engine and a 9-speed transmission that transmits power to all four wheels. Like other Mercedes models, the PureSpeed is equipped with the brand's Active Ride Control system to optimize the suspension. Carbon ceramic brakes are standard, as is active rear-axle steering.
